ANZFSSA National Social Studies Professional Body
The Aotearoa New Zealand Federation of Social Studies Associations is the national professional body for social studies educators in New Zealand. The Federation is an umbrella organisation co-ordinating the work of local and regional social studies associations around New Zealand. The Federation aims to:
- promote, encourage, and advance the teaching and learning of Social Studies in New Zealand primary, intermediate, and secondary schools;
- encourage and facilitate professional interaction, discussion, debate, and communication to support effective Social Studies teaching and learning for the benefit of both teachers and learners;
- facilitate members’ involvement in educational policy making, and development of curriculum and assessment frameworks related to Social Studies education;
- assist members to engage in and coordinate research, professional development, publication, and dissemination of findings and materials that promote effective Social Studies teaching and learning on an annual basis:
- facilitate communication and liaison between Social Studies associations throughout New Zealand, as well as with other relevant community groups and professional organisations on a national and international basis, to advance knowledge and understanding that promotes effective teaching and learning in Social Studies.
The Federation is governed by a National Executive and the day-to-day affairs of the organisation are run by a small management committee.
